Years ago bottles and dishware were discarded in dumps over cliffs, and were thrown overboard from ships, or carried by the tides across the ocean from shipwrecks. In time these bottles were broken up and the natural tides washed them back and forth until they became smaller pieces. Along with the turbulent tides, these pieces were smoothed by the gravel and sand as they were washed onto the shore. Many of the pieces I find are 50-100 years old. The history behind the glass is very exciting and finding any piece, but especially
a rare piece is magical to me!
I have tried to create beautiful sea glass jewelry with my collection of sea glass from Prince Edward Island, Canada. I don't alter any of the pieces in shape or size. I use them just the way I find them, and try to create something personal and different with each "gem of the sea".
As I walk the beach, I am totally in tune with nature, and songs come to my mind. "God's Little Treasures" which is on my CD "Songs of the Sea" is one of those songs.
Guitar accompaniment is by our son Karl.
You can hear my song on my Music page.
